I like this park. Feels like a nice date spot. Bring some take out - eat at this charming waterside spot. It does feel like maybe some folks had their concrete boots fitted here. But it’s industrial chic and tranquil now. Between the tankers and the polluted waterfront can be you and your beau having some dinner and sharing with the seagulls. This review may sound sarcastic. But I really would Recommend this spot. Just manage your expectations. It is NJ.
Captain Carlsen Park is one of those quiet gems you stumble on, look around, and say, “How is this place so peaceful when the rest of New Jersey is… well… New Jersey?” I’ve come here a bunch of times—sometimes to clear my head, sometimes to stretch my legs, sometimes just to pretend I’m a deep, introspective person staring dramatically at the water. Works every time. The waterfront views are honestly fantastic. Whether it’s sunrise, sunset, or that middle-of-the-day moment where you accidentally wandered here instead of getting your errands done, the scenery always hits. Plenty of benches, plenty of shade, and plenty of spots to just sit and watch the boats, birds, and occasional guy who clearly brought fishing gear he has no idea how to use (salute to that hero). The walking paths are clean, the vibe is calm, and it’s one of the few places where you can scroll your phone for 20 minutes without feeling guilty. Parking is usually fine, though make sure to read the signs unless you want a surprise souvenir from the township on your windshield. And if you're launching a boat—yes, there's a fee, but hey, the water access is solid. Overall, Captain Carlsen Park is a perfect low-key escape: peaceful, pretty, and always reliable when you need a breather. Highly recommended for a stroll, a sit-down, or a “pretend-you’re-in-a-movie” moment by the water. 🌅🚶♂️🌊
This is a small park with a boat launch as well as a three-sided fishing dock. There are at least 6 metal picnic tables for use and a gazebo. They're also several benches here and the dark provides an excellent view of the waterway. There's also a small boat launch here add a parking lot located above the boat launch area. Along the water there's also parking however there are restrictions on when you can park. It appears you cannot park there during most of the days. So pay attention to the signs so that you don't get a ticket. #park #captaincarlson #boatlaunch
Secret place my Abuelita found and insisted we go there weekly to sit on the bench, take in the fresh air, and just watch the boats. It's a quiet, calming environment with plenty of benches and parking if you want to enjoy food while enjoying the view! #LetsGuide Review Update- I still come annually to commemorate and honor Abuela and one of her fave places! They have since added more benches and tables for more families to enjoy the peace, calming view with a nice breeze!
If you're looking for a nice local place to ease your mind near water, then this place is for you. There's always action on the water and plenty of birds in the area.
