Great launch site. Plenty of room for up to four vehicles, retrieving and launching at the same time. Plenty of turnaround back up space for the beginners and a very good size parking lot for tow vehicles and trailers. Launching and parking are free to Portsmouth residence and also has on-site bathrooms.
Drove to the boat ramp today, 10-15-2020, and repairs are under way! Still have only 1 launch and retrieve area but it looks like the city will have it fully operational soon. Center and left dock (facing the river) is open. Boat ramp is shot to hell as of May 2020 In great disrepair and not likely to be repaired anytime soon due to the economic impact on the city thanks to the pandemic. Maybe 1 launch lane is OK to use. Pro's: Recently repaired, the Portsmouth City Park boat ramp is easy to maneuver (when the area is free of parked onlookers) and has 2 launch and 2 retrieve lanes. Restrooms are clean. Thank you Portsmouth! Con: I don't like the fact that some sight seekers tend to park in/at the top of the launch & retrieval area. Please park elsewhere and walk down to the ramp so you are not in the way of us boaters.
Best place to put your boat in the water. Ive been using this ramp since 2005 .nice and steep so you dont have to pull your truck in the water to float your boat .beautiful sunsets.
Love to see the boats going on their way, and the ones that are returning to be picked up at the ramps. The sunsets are really super at times.
It WAS a great place to launch your boat ...just hope you're a better captain than the owner of the boat in the photo
