Nice, open, and spacious. Gated area with agility obstacles for smaller dogs, and gated area with a walking trail and access to water for the big dogs.

I had high expectations for Dog Island after reading the reviews, but my experience was not so great. The area could be great, but there was dog poo everywhere! You literally could not walk down to the waters edge without stepping in some. There was a solid line of poo along the waters edge the whole length of the beach! Extra fencing to enclose the beach area would really make this an exceptional area, but as is, not so great.

This is an exceptional and unique big dog park/beach. It has benches, poop bags, trash cans, restrooms (closed in fall/winter), water (off in in witner), parking about 30 ft away. It's mostly sand and water with some brush and trees. here's a separate area for small dogs. They essentially turned a peninsula into a dog park. There is water on three sides and a fence on the other. The fence is mostly a 4-ft chain link fence but near the water there is a section of 3 ft wire fence. There are also lots of birds so this may not be the best place if your dog has a tendency to bolt/chase animals. There is a full agility set up but on the small dog area only. Not many dogs and a few owners not picking up waste. Otherwise amazing spot.

Dog loved it! Fenced access to water, sandy beach, short loop around a lightly wooded peninsula. Dog fountain and plenty bags and trash cans, facilities for humans, too! Look out for cocklebur between the toe beans but that was the only negative.

Back on May 15th 2022 , and my original review is actually provable true now!! This place is unbelievably gorgeous !! Now here is my review and my prediction for how the park would look during the summer along with some validating pictures hahaha Wow!! I can only imagine this place in the middle of the summer with all the trees green and all the Flora and Fauna blooming!! I think they should call this fantasy Dog Island!! Where else can you find beach sand and snow? Yeah Alaska comes to mind. But this place has bathrooms that are open all summer they're closed from October 2nd through spring. They even have a water nozzle and place for you to wash your dog off if they're too dirty to get back in the car! The entry area is extremely large and the gates are very big and easy to get through. I think Joe Buck either lived here or donated money because all the park benches have sayings from him on them? But it is out at the end of the peninsula and there is nowhere for your dog to go except all over the peninsula!! I think this dog park maybe in the top 5 Parks I've seen so far? And I'm in the great giant City of Grand Island Nebraska? I think the population is somewhere around 50,000 and yet they have a dog park that is one of the nicest all around everything included Parks I've seen!! Trees, grass, bushes, shrubs, squirrels, water, bathroom, parking close, easy entry and exit, excetera excetera excetera. I learned from the local park guy that this used to actually be a little dock with boat rentals on it for people to use the beach with. And for some good reason they tore that all down and made it a dog park!! Yay
