Very large park with walking path. This park is huge. It has a very long walking path throughout the park. There is also a large lake with ducks, geese, etc. I like this park but I don't like the drive to the park. The park is in a very congested area. Every time I have driven to this park I have been stuck in traffic. Also this park can be very busy with a huge volume of people. I have went to this park in the early morning, in the evening after work and on the weekends and it has always been crowded. When the walking path is too crowded, I have tried to walk on the grass. Some grassy areas of the park is wet mud. Not fun to walk in. Unfortunately the grass is not well maintained at this park. Many areas contain no grass, just dirt or mud. So this is a wonderful park, but not one of my favorites. Although most people give this park very high ratings. Note my pics of the park were taken when I took time off from work mid week so the park was not crowded.

The Earvin “Magic” Johnson Recreation Area is truly one of Los Angeles County’s hidden gems—a beautifully maintained urban oasis that lives up to the legendary name it carries. From the moment you arrive, you can feel that this park was designed with community, relaxation, and recreation in mind.

What makes this park exceptional is how inclusive and well-planned it is. There are plenty of shaded picnic areas, playgrounds, and fitness zones, making it ideal for families, joggers, and anyone looking to enjoy a healthy outdoor lifestyle. The walking and biking paths are wide and well-paved, perfect for both leisurely strolls and energetic exercise. The restrooms and facilities are clean and well-maintained, which is a huge plus for a park of this size.
The park often hosts community events, outdoor fitness classes, and cultural festivals, reflecting the vibrant diversity of the surrounding area. It’s more than just a park—it’s a gathering place that brings people together. The staff and security presence also make the space feel very safe and welcoming.
There’s also a great focus on environmental care and accessibility. The recent renovations added sustainable landscaping and improved pathways for strollers and wheelchairs, showing that this park was designed for everyone to enjoy.

Amazing park. Went early around 11am for a picnic on Easter. We were able to find parking and a spot really easily.
It's home to a variety of wildlife, including geese, ducks, and other birds. The park is also well-maintained, with green grass, trees, and flowers.
Pros:
Beautiful scenery
Variety of wildlife
Well-maintained
Free
Cons:
Can be crowded
Can be noisy
Limited parking
Overall, this is a great and expansive park that will fit most of your needs. Just expect a big crowd on holidays!

I love that they'll cook a burger to order cuz I like a nice rare burger. Great double bacon cheeseburger get it with barbecue sauce. Terrific onion rings and a great pastrami Burger. Four stars because no seating and as far as I know no public restroom. They used to have tables outside but last time I went, no tables. Prices are still pretty darn good, comparatively. I must like it a lot cuz I traveled 15 miles to get a burger on my birthday.
