December 28, 2025 - My wife & I enjoy Raleigh’s green spaces , this little gem is quaint . . . Fallon Park 😃 Only about 10 acres, but links up with Crabtree Creek Park inside Raleigh’s “ Beltline” ! This cute park is nestled within an historic neighborhood, dating back to 1915 . It’s named after James Joseph Fallon ( 1877 - 1945) in the Florist business in Raleigh, then later the Chairman of Raleigh’s Parks & Recreation Commission. Fallon owned a company that sub-divided 50 acres into plots for home construction. Some of that land was set aside for a park. Then in 1942 the city of Raleigh annexed the park, and officially called it Fallon Park, and is protected land. Fallon Park has a certain charm ! + Reasonably clean creek water + Trail head with map + Easy access to local neighborhood + Several cute bridges cross creek + Several picnic areas & tables + Dog friendly & Waste station /bags + Cool creek water & rocks to play + Boy Scout project , clear ivy + Connects to Crabtree Creek trails No electricity No bathrooms No playground No water fountains Geology * Over 620 million years old * Outcrops of Raleigh “ Gneiss” rocks * Highest level of metamorphic rock * Dark layers - black mica * Lt. layers -quartz, feldspar, muscovite History Pre-European settlers - Native Indians ( check maps of Native Indians in NC) 1700’s Plantation system ( Tobacco & Cotton) Early 1800’s William Christmas Plantation 1,000 acres in Raleigh 1915 - James Fallon subdivides 50 acres , construction of homes 1941 Pope Pius XII awarded Fallon with Knighthood Order of St. Gregory 1942 - Fallon Park opens in Raleigh 1945 - Local businessman Fallon dies FUN North Carolina Facts😃 7 NC recognized Indian Tribes 1 Federally recognized Cherokee Tribe 10 National Parks in NC 4 National Forests in NC NC 2nd most Christmas Trees cut/sold *Oregon most Christmas Trees sold

I asked my girlfriend to marry me at the gazebo, right before the great snowstorm of January 2022. It was a wonderful and special day. And very cold, so much so that we couldn’t stop laughing. In many ways the story of our love and lives together is tied to memories at this park, so we’re grateful for that and will probably never forget it. So, maybe if you come to this park you will fall in (fallon?) love. Or maybe you will see kids playing in the creek or dogs sprinting in circles, and that would be fun too.

I found the cutest map someone added to the board at the park! It gives such a good layout of what the park looks like. ☺️

Quiet and serene park, loads of places to sit and the old mill ruins are a nice gem.
