Frenchy’s Field Park in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a charming gem that offers a peaceful escape from the bustle of city life. Nestled along the Santa Fe River, this 16-acre park boasts a rich history as a former dairy farm, now transformed into a welcoming space for families, dog walkers, and nature lovers alike. The paved walking loop—perfect for a leisurely stroll or a quick jog—circles a wildflower-dotted field that bursts with color in the right season, while a shaded playground keeps kids entertained for hours. With picnic tables, grills, and even a labyrinth to explore, it’s a spot that invites you to slow down and savor the simple joys of outdoor time. Plus, the free parking is a rare treat in Santa Fe, making it an easy stop for anyone craving a dose of fresh air.
What really sets Frenchy’s Field apart is its quirky, laid-back vibe—like the prairie dogs that have claimed it as their own little sanctuary, popping up to say hello as you wander the trails. The park’s connection to the Santa Fe River Trail adds an extra layer of adventure, letting you extend your outing with scenic views of the surrounding mountains. It’s not without its quirks, though—some areas could use a little more TLC, with occasional weeds or litter in the mix—but that rustic charm just adds to its character. Whether you’re tossing a ball with your pup, enjoying a picnic under the trees, or just soaking in the quiet, Frenchy’s Field Park is a delightful slice of Santa Fe’s natural heart, perfect for a laid-back day out.

I liked the trails at Frenchy"s trail and the only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because it needs to have more and good signs for the visitors who are not familiar with the trail or coming fir first time. There are not clear indicators of where the trail starts: I went to a closest entrance which leads you to a private house. Same with exit sign leading to parking area: no clear signs. Suggestion: also put mileage signs of the trail. Other than that I enjoyed the view and the shade under the trees.

All the nice photos are from years ago. Everything here is ruined by failure to maintain. The grass is just dead sticks now. Graffiti, trash and broken glass in walk areas. Avoid.

One of the better parks in Santa Fe. It is connected to the Camino Real Trail (aka River Trail) and has a big parking lot, public restrooms, and has a bus stop right next to it.
Once you're there, enjoy the playground, outdoor exercise course, nice paved loop to run/walk on, plenty of benches and picnic tables, public grills, a community garde, a couple outdoor sculptures, and a community building you can rent out from the city.
Perhaps the best part about it is there are bunches of prarie dogs that live there. Most locals bring food and feed them while others try to eradicate them. Once I saw a dog jump out of the flat bed of a pickup truck that was stopped at a red light and murder one in the blink of an eye. Never a dull moment around here!
