Garth Nature Area is such a hidden gem in Columbia. I absolutely love how peaceful and calming this spot is whether I’m going for a morning walk, catching the sunset, or just needing a break from the day. The trails are always clean and surrounded by nature, which makes the whole experience feel grounding and refreshing. I’ll never forget one of my hikes when I caught this amazing picture of what looked like a family turtle reunion by the water it was one of those little magical moments that just stays with you. The connection to the larger Bear Creek Trail is a nice bonus if I want a longer walk or bike ride. I’ve seen deer, birds, turtles, and so many butterflies in spring and summer it really feels like a slice of nature right in town. There’s always parking, the restrooms are available year round, and the entire space just feels well cared for. You can tell the city and community take pride in this area. If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing, and beautiful spot in Columbia, Garth Nature Area never disappoints.

Came looking for frogs and was not disappointed in April. Up close to the parking area at least, there were bull frogs, leopard frogs, and some smaller brown frogs in the shallow waters. There is a mother duck near the parking, on a small island in the nearest pond, protecting her eggs as well. I saw at least two turtles on the log by the parking lot. I did see one bee visiting all the wild flowers. Love to see a healthy park like this

There are some easy trails to walk in this natural area. It doesn't take long to go through, but has nice scenery to enjoy.

Several small lakes and well buily trek. You can enjoy turning trek along with 5 to 6 lakes. The scenery is beautiful, youll love the time spent here, there are many different species of pirds and small animals you can spot. Bring in your water bottle and spend hours of lovely time close to nature.
