As someone who frequently visits parks throughout South Florida, I had high hopes for Gator Run Park—especially given Weston’s reputation for beautiful, well-maintained public spaces. Unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired, and I walked away more frustrated than refreshed.
Let’s start with the first impression: the parking lot is surprisingly limited for a park of this size. During peak hours—like weekend mornings or early evenings—it’s almost impossible to find a spot without circling for a while. There’s no designated overflow parking nearby, which only adds to the congestion.
The playground, which should be a highlight for families, felt outdated and underwhelming. A lot of the equipment looked worn down and in need of maintenance, with faded paint, some loose bolts, and mulch ground cover that’s uneven and full of debris. While it’s shaded by some mature trees, the actual structures don’t seem designed for a wide age range of kids. My youngest found it too challenging, and my older one got bored quickly.
As for the walking trails and open fields, they’re nothing special. The loop is short and doesn't offer much in terms of scenery or shade. You’ll mostly find patches of grass with little to no tree cover, which means walking here in the Florida sun can be downright uncomfortable. The supposed “open green space” is really just a plain field—no real landscaping, no interesting features, and limited seating.
One of my biggest issues was the lack of restrooms. There are portable toilets, but for a park that claims to cater to families and sports events, this is simply not enough. A permanent restroom facility should be standard. And when there are multiple soccer games or birthday parties happening at once, the wait becomes frustrating and unhygienic.
Also worth noting: the sports facilities, while there in number, aren’t always well maintained. The soccer fields had large bare patches and uneven turf. Trash cans were overflowing during my visit, and no park staff were in sight to address it. It gave off the impression that upkeep is minimal unless there's a scheduled event.
I understand that not every park needs to be extravagant, but Gator Run Park just feels like a missed opportunity. In a city like Weston, where other parks are clean, inviting, and well-designed, this one falls short in multiple areas. With some major upgrades and better maintenance, it could be something more—but as it stands, it’s not a place I’ll be returning to anytime soon.
Final Verdict:
Gator Run Park has potential but fails to deliver. Between poor maintenance, limited amenities, and underwhelming recreational space, it doesn’t live up to the standard that Weston usually sets for its public parks. 2 out of 5 stars.

For lovers of the outdoors, Gator Run Park is a nice, clean and safe space with walkways, parking, grass, a playground, large trees to spend a relaxing afternoon, have a picnic or just read... ahhh if you want to do one party, meeting or sharing express you can do it in any of the three kiosks that the park has and best of all you do not need to reserve in the city of Weston, first come first served.

Small park but well maintained. Great for small gathering, you can take your bbq and rent extra tables and chairs and do a free park day. Two o three pavilions with a picnic table and bench. Playground for kids. I went to a 50th celebration with 50 guest. Beautiful trees provide the perfect shade to accommodate and enjoy a nice day.
A place to relax and enjoy a day

Good park for kids to play but difficult parking with construction enclosure.
