I spent a morning at Grant Park when I was in Atlanta, and it turned out to be one of the nicest parts of my trip. The park is pretty big, with lots of shady trees and open green spaces that make it easy to wander without a plan. I went for a walk, sat for a bit on a bench near the paths, and just enjoyed being outside — it felt relaxed and welcoming instead of noisy or chaotic.
One of the highlights for me was seeing the historic homes and neighborhoods around the park — it gave the whole place an old‑city charm that I didn’t expect. There’s also a zoo inside the park, which I didn’t go into this time around, but it made the place feel lively with families and kids around.
I noticed plenty of people walking dogs, jogging, or just having picnics on the grass, so it really felt like a community spot rather than just a tourist stop. I grabbed a coffee nearby and brought it back to the park, which made for a nice little break in the middle of a day exploring Atlanta.
There were clean rest areas and enough space that even when parts of the park were busy, it never felt crowded. Overall, Grant Park was a lovely place to slow down, enjoy some fresh air, and see a bit of local life — simple, pleasant, and well worth a visit if you’re in town.

IllumiNights at the Zoo in Grant Park is simply magical! My family and I were completely blown away by the beautiful, vibrant lantern displays throughout the grounds. It truly transforms the zoo into a stunning nighttime spectacle.
A huge highlight and a definite value add is the refillable collector's cup! We took full advantage of the all-you-can-drink offering, cozying up with unlimited hot cider and hot chocolate as we strolled through the lights. It made the entire experience so much warmer and more enjoyable.
The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was joyful, and the whole event is wonderfully organized. If you're looking for a perfect holiday outing, this is it!

We've been here about 4 to 5 times. We learn something new every time.
Look for the volunteers they have so much knowledge. Jane, at the elephant encounter was so insightful and knowledgeable.

Intermediate sized park with casual bike riders, dog walkers, joggers; there may be too many bikers at times. There are a multitude of birds chirping in juxtaposition with cars passing by on nearby roads. The park contains shaded areas & paved roads as the trail. The park is a circulation of meandering trails & gravel tributaries to keep your paths interesting. The squirrels & chipmunks run amok. If you come during the summer months, then you have to contend with the kids at the playground screaming (with joy) during summer break.

The forest and rolling hills of Grant Park make it a good place to stroll, relax, play in a playground or visit the zoo. However, it has potential to be an ideal urban getaway, perhaps matching Atlanta’s Piedmont Park.
Here are ideas to make Grant Park a more beautiful and inviting public space:
- Remove tree brush and trim dead branches.
- Sweep paved trails of dirt and duff.
- Repair broken pavement and walls.
- Plant more flowers and flowering shrubs throughout.
- Enhance the grounds with fountains and sculptures.
Although a restroom was not welcoming from the outside, it was clean inside.
Grant Park is a beautiful asset for Atlanta’s residents and visitors to enjoy. But with modest investments in time and labor, it could become an idyllic public oasis.
