Hempstead Lake State Park is a great escape from the city without having to go too far. I visited during the snow, and it was especially beautiful and peaceful. The park is spacious, clean, and well maintained, with the lake and trails looking amazing covered in white. It’s perfect for a quiet walk, jogging, or just sitting by the water to unwind. Even in winter, it didn’t feel crowded at all, which made the experience even better. Parking was easy, and the overall atmosphere was calm and relaxing.

I'm here for work and staying at a nearby hotel and didn't expect to find this nice of a park in a city. Even though it was gray and cold I really enjoyed running around the lake thank you so much for public land.

I've been told about this gem for a couple years now. It took me too long to explore its beauty. Truly a wonderful escape in the Hempstead area. So peaceful and majestic. All the usual state park amenities for BBQ, sports etc. The lake makes it a bit more special though. I was there close to Sunset on a Wednesday. Such a great way to close out the day.

This is a multi-use path is for walkers, joggers, cyclists, and horses. Leashed dogs are permitted. The clean path is wide for easy passing or walking side by side. The footing is good but can get muddy if it rains a lot. The walk around the lake is 3 miles. Parking in Field 5 is easy. There is another lot across from the Southern State Parkway on Eagle Avenue. I discovered beautiful trails that are clearly marked there.
