Our dog loved Huntington Dog Beach! It was easy for us to social distance since there weren’t too many people. But there was still enough dogs for her to play with.
I live in the High Desert and my housemate wanted to go to the beach to celebrate his birthday, but we couldn't leave our 7 month Malinois. Our pup has never seen a body of water before and we never had her around a lot of dogs. What to do? Where could we go? We wanted to be in OC and after some web browsing I came across info for Huntington Dog Beach. Not knowing what to expect, we went praying for a positive experience and what did we get? 1) A beautiful, clean beach! 2) Ample amount of parking (download the Passport app to make payment a breeze) 3) Super friendly, beach-loving dog owners who made us feel welcome and understood where we were at with our pup. 4) A HUGE dog-friendly beach where you can choose to be in areas around a lot of dogs or find a more remote area where you can test to see how your pooch reacts off the leash. Our pup loves people and has been playful with other dogs at the Vet or on walks, but how would she interact with everything in this big new world? So many people understood and offered their hospitality introducing their dogs and giving us encouragement. 5) Awesome waves and a great place to kitesurf! (We didn't see any dogs participate, but plenty were watching! 😀 ) All thanks to the community of Huntington Beach for making this place a dog paradise!
Very nice beach for dogs. All off leash. Parking 5am to 10pm. Parking is a challenge but keep looking. 2 dollars for an hour parking fee. Waves were crashing perfectly too. Lots of surfers out there. They have picnic tables too so can bring a picnic.
My pup loves this place. Seems like the dogs here tend to also be better behaved than the ones at the parks. Don't know why, but just is.
