Newly built dog park on the state hospital grounds. Grounds have been maintained and nice structure.

I took my two basset hounds to the free day to try out the park. Yes it is a paid membership but they offer a free day the first Monday of every month. I don't mind paying b/c it keeps the premises maintained and I know my boys will be around other responsible dog owners. The people I met were super kind and welcoming. I understand people being annoyed with a membership model but there are other free parks in the area, and they're not as well maintained.

As dog parks are the fastest growing community assets in the US, I am thrilled that Evansville and the tri-state have this wonderful space for our pups to run free! Yes, there is a membership requirement - and that means that you know every other dog your pup comes in contact with is current with vaccinations, it means that that park is kept clean and orderly, and above all, it means you and your dog are in a safe space. The park receives no public funding and is maintained by memberships and sponsorships.

Googled free dog parks and drove across town to take my dog there but failed to read the reviews first. This is NOT a free dog park. It’s a “members only” dog park, lol. I was still willing to join and pay, instead of leaving, but it takes 3 days to get your membership approved. Disappointing all around. Also, there’s no grass only Astro turf. Try picking up poo in that! Yuck!

Listed on Google as a free dog park and drove all the way out to it to see a locked dog park that is for members only and approval takes 3 to 4 days. After I walked away I watched people walk up and walk away back to back for the next 30 mins. Not one person who wanted to use this dog park could assess it.
