Pros: lots of dog-friendly trails, ocean breezes, interesting geology Cons: trails aren’t really marked, no shade. See captions in my photos for more detailed information and insights.

Excellent place to get outside. With a dozen different trails to choose from, there is plenty of variety and difficulty to choose from. It's a dog friendly preserve (rare), is well maintained, and clean. Great for kids too, so bring the whole family. Trails lead around the lake and up the local volcano! (Pic is trails coming down the volcano, very steep. There are other, much much easier trails on the other side)

Great hiking experience! Flat as well as inclines. Easy, lots of families walking together.

The views near the lake was gorgeous, especially near sunset when the reflection in the water is visible. however the the trail starting east off lake Blvd, are more suitable for mountain bikers than hikers. Rough and steep patches, some parts close to the creeks that create very muddy spots. I parked in the nearby neighborhood since there is limited parking at Riparian park. There are restrooms and water fountains available there.

Bobcat sighting - right at dawn on Dec 29th, on the trail rounding the lake on the volcano side, around 630 am, ran right in front of me fo about 5 steps and then darted up the hill, was def a bobcat, brown with black stripes, small triangle ears, smaller than a coyote and puffy fur. Looked almost like a small bear (in shape) but facial features confirmed it’s a bobcat. No danger but wanted to share l, wasn’t sure where else to post
