This was a great walking tour. We went Monday night and that night is only open to walkers and bikers. Walking you can see many details missed while driving. It was very cold but well worth the drive.

Feels more like a state park than a city park… beautiful pastoral woodland landscapes great for cycling, walking/ dog walking, running, disc golf, fishing, sledding. Quirky interesting things to see like the fish hatchery and covered bridge (under restoration this year.) As it’s a city park it’s free of hunting which makes it a de facto wildlife sanctuary…you are almost guaranteed to see curious deer and herons… also lots of foxes here. I’ve heard coyotes here from outside the park at night (unfortunately it is closed to the public at night so no telescope star parties.) Better wildlife viewing than many PA state parks I have visited. I’ve also seen other kinds of birds here interested in the fish in the creek, such as bald eagles, so it’s also a great place for birding.

Once was of the finest parks or Greenways I had been to. Very lovely! However, things are changing. The creek is dying from excessive salt that is put on the roads and getting into the aquifer. The stream buffers are nearly gone and they keep cutting down the trees and vegetation the insects use to live and mate, as well as provide shade for the creek. We just need manage for the next 100 years and not depend on the sparse 1 tree deep buffer along the creek, and continue to cut down trees etc. We. They also remove a lot of dead trees from the creek so they don't ruin bridges and water intake, but the fish could benefit from some natural structure. Still a lovely park. Watch for weird stuff going on in the woods above the fish hatchery.
