One of the best kept secrets in South Austin. This place is HUGE, green, and flat. Wonderful creekside, single-pass trail through a delightful forest. There's no fenced off areas for separating different sized dogs, just fyi. But this place is so big, you can simply walk to your own acre if there's a concern. Bring a chair if you like to sit. 10/10

One of the only places we can bring our son and have our dog off lease comfortably. Most dog parks aren't very kid friendly and most playgrounds aren't very dog friendly. This is BOTH and we love it. We also watched them clear out a big tree that had broken in the storms. My son loved watching the big truck do it's job. 🤣

I honestly hate to leave this review because the actual trail and water (when there is water) is great. My dog loves it here. However, unfortunately, this park and trail has been ruined by the countless people who feel it’s not their responsibility to pick up after their dogs. The entire park and trail is absolutely covered in dog poop. It is truly disgusting at this point and so sad that people feel the need to trash one of the few good spots to take our dogs off leash in Austin.

Update: Feb 2025 Onion Creek has been cleaned up and cleared out. There are now new paths to take on the trail and stairs down to the water once you've headed on the trail. So happy to see these improvements! It's sad how downhill this park has become. There is West Nile to worry about. The creek is drying up. Paths previously walked daily are now overgrown. Still a good place to walk with my dog but the magic is gone.

I visited for the first time today around 10 a.m. and really liked it at first — the water was beautiful. However, once I got deeper into the trail, a tall man (around 6’2”), shirtless and carrying a blanket, suddenly came out of the woods onto the path. His movements felt odd, and it immediately put me on edge. I was there alone with my dogs, and the encounter gave me an unsettling feeling. Just be careful or have an exit plan. The trail is long and nowhere to safely escape if you’re deep in there with your doggies. Would not go alone without protection.
