Ooley Park's charm lies in its vine-laden trees, thick foliage, and interesting plants. A wire fence, nearly consumed by creeper vines, splits the south side into two sections. The park lacks amenities and could benefit from more defined parking areas. There are no pathways, picnic areas, or benches, and the two sets of swings are not well-suited for adults. Mosquitoes are abundant, so bring bug spray. New trees are being planted, enhancing the natural beauty. However, the southwest corner smelled of urine, and I removed a crushed Coors aluminum can and a screwdriver. It's best to wear long socks. Despite these things, the park is an nice place to wander, examine plants, and as someone suggested, it's an excellent spot for a treasure hunt.
Not the best park. I understand that homelessness is not pretty and most people don’t want to be around it. I read another reviewer comment that the park would be great if not for the camp of homeless people. Where should they go?? Do you know that there aren’t even enough night shelters to accommodate the growing number of citizens who are facing this? And where should they go during the day?? There is only 1 small permanent daytime shelter open 7:30-4pm, 365 days a year. There are 2-3k homeless people in Springfield. There is a serious shortage of day and night time shelters. Nowhere to go. Waiting months to get the chance to get back on their feet in their own home. So unless you are going to do something to help, don’t hate, judge or discriminate against people based on where they live and kick them when they’re down. They’re just people in a park.
It's a small little park....different type of atmosphere however a great treasure hunt location
This park is an absolute masterpiece. Just the most beautiful piece of art that the city of Springfield could have made.
There isn't much playground equipment, and the ground isn't flat enough to play field sports! Avoid!
