We fostered to adopt our sweet Pepper (aka Wiggles) she has completely changed our lives for the better. Cher was amazingly helpful and communicative with us. She and the staff there truly care about the animals and work tirelessly to help them. Remember they are all volunteers! It was a wonderful experience. We are so thankful for the support and kindness they show these animals.

My wife Linda and adopted our Rosie on March 30, 2025. We did the foster to adopted program. We wanted to adopted Rosie and her sister Buttercup. However, Buttercup was getting aggressive towards Rosie. We had to sadly surrender Buttercup. She was adopted within 24 hours. She was a dog that needed to be the only dog in the house. I wanted forever homes for both Buttercup and Rosie. However, it turned out that the best for them respectively was separated homes.
Jean and the phenomenal volunteers at Parma Animal Shelter are extraordinary. They explained the foster to adopt program in detail. The volunteers communicate well with every step of the process. The volunteers help animals and people with compassion and knowledge.
I have been familiar with the pet industry for over 40 years. My best friend and fishing buddy was my veterinarian. Parma Animal Shelter is a class act for animal rescue.

imo (in case i dont remember everything exactly), they didn't do a proper behavioral assessment on an aggressive/high testosterone male adult cat neutered 3 or 4 years old before adopting him out or they knew and adopted him out anyways this is SO dangerous! fortunately I had an extra room to seperate him in when he growled for hours. it was very scary and stressful....i was originally there for a kitten they promised me after i got approved and i was even early from the time I gave them and they sold him from under me!
then they tried to pawn this aggressive adult male to me for only $50! i didnt know why he was so cheap but now it makes sense.. it was a far drive for me so I felt pressured to not leave empty handed... if i remember correctly, they only had him for 2-4 weeks from the APL before I got him! red flag!
he needed special care. if he had too much food around, he would barf on walls not just floors. walls are harder to clean. he would attack walls and doors too! crazy behavior we never saw in cats before! luckily my other 2 cats are males who were neutered at an appropriate age and don't show signs of aggression but this aggressive cat did teach them bad behavior like scratching walls they never did before him, growling to protect food they never did before him, and bunching up a fuzzy blanket or hoodie kneading it with an arched back while biting it which they never did before him!
he continued to have high testosterone behavior aka aggression, scratching at doors, yoweling, growling and hissing often even as running past, constantly grumpy, sighed often, tried to find places to hide and get away from his brothers (i built him places but he didnt use most of them), mating with fuzzy blankets/hoodies, biting hard drawing blood on back of legs of PEOPLE whenever some female cat smell appeared (friends visiting who own female cat(s).) sending people to urgent cares and hospitals.
he stole fuzzy blankets and hoodies and mated with them. he constantly growled and hissed at my other cats as he passed them even if they didnt try to playfully pat him.
he clearly was too feral to be adopted and may have had an intact testicle after being neutered.
this caused us a lot of stress and heart ache but at least animal control and the parma animal shelter employees were kind and sympathetic when we had to surrender him after the 6th bite to someone's back of leg as they walked away from him forcing them to need antibiotics! he usually was sweet and cuddly with me and my guy friends. he would climb on me while i laid down and pushed back his butt to my chin and laid on me but my other cats were too scared to approach me when he was by me!! he HAD to smell everything first or hes get pissed. he got easily overwhelmed and constantly whined/yoweled and looked at the ceilings.
his pee also smelled so badly!
we also thought we were told he was much younger but we could be remembering that wrong. be careful because male cats can have extra parts that require multiple neuterings!
I even tried fealaway pheromones and he still was aggressive and always running away from the cats growing and hissing
when i say this aggressive cat scratched doors and growled, I mean it was almost constant he damaged doors and walls. I didnt realize how good my other 2 cats are but its a world of a difference quiet and peaceful here now that he is gone

For a few months I have been thinking about getting a kitten. I searched “kittens for sale” on google, and this animal shelter popped up. I decided to peek at their kittens just for the heck of it, and spotted one kitten I was interested in. I decided to fill out an application, really not expecting anything to come out of it, but sure enough, 3 days later, I get invited for an interview. I go there the next day and was greeted by a friendly staff. I worked with Eryn, who selected a random kitten, named Mischief, for me to hold and walk around with as she answered all my questions and listened to my concerns about bringing home a kitten to a house with 3 other animals. Eryn made me feel so comfortable throughout the whole process, never pressured me into adopting the kitten that day, and when I went back the next day to adopt him, she made the experience so easy. The shelter also sent me home with food and litter to help get me started. Now, renamed Binx, is settling in very well in his new home. Took him back today for a shot he still needed and, once again, the staff were great. I would recommend adopting from here, great experience.

It’s coming up on a year since our adoption here and it’s still the best decisions we’ve ever made! Angel (now Mochi) was a very anxious girl and staff was very attentive to ensure we would be willing to work with her. She has made so much progress since then it’s unbelievable! She now spends her time hoarding toys, sunbathing in the windows, and zooming around the yard/parks! Thank you all again for the work you do, we are forever grateful!!
