Andy Romano Beachfront Park in Ormond Beach, Florida, was developed on a 4-acre site purchased by the city in 2010, opening in 2013 as a tribute to local figure Andy Romano, a pioneering lifeguard, educator, and community advocate, featuring amenities like a splash pad, playground, pavilions, and parking, funded partly by Volusia County.
Origins & Acquisition
Land Purchase (2010): After a developer's failure during the recession, the city acquired the beachfront property at 839 S. Atlantic Ave. with voter approval to create Ormond's first dedicated beachfront park.
Funding: The project involved a partnership with Volusia County, which contributed $3.5 million towards the park's development, part of the roughly $8 million cost.
The Honoree: Andy Romano ("Mr. Beach")
Legacy: The park honors Andy Romano, a beloved local figure known as "Mr. Beach," for his dedication to improving life in Ormond Beach.
Contributions: Romano was Ormond's first lifeguard, started the first beach concession (Andy's Rentals), and served as a teacher and principal, becoming a positive role model.
Naming: City Commissioner Troy Kent, a close friend of Romano, championed the naming, recognizing Romano's deep connection to the beach.
Development & Features
Design: An extensive public input process guided the design, with Romano's daughter, Heidi Carhide, also involved.
Opening (2013): The park officially opened in February 2013.
Amenities: It offers parking, pedestrian walkways, restrooms, pavilions, a concession stand, a children's playground, and a splash pad.
Significance
The park serves as a public amenity and a lasting tribute to Andy Romano, transforming a key piece of oceanfront land into a community asset.

First time visit. Nice park. Dogs loved it. Only.about half mile long, better than nothing though. Recently passed acceptance of dogs on beach here. Vilano beach (just above St Augustine) still our favorite. I didn't like that Beach Patrol drove right past 2 vehiclel parked past designated area. Beyond the posts. Good thing the sea turtles iare not nesting in this area.

Love it. Beautiful facilities with snacks bar ,bathrooms and a splash pad as well. L limited access to beach because of damage to the stairs but one ramp is available. The parts of it that are open are wonderful to have picnic tables growing areas. enough tables for large parties and beautiful beaches

Very nice facility and ocean. They have nice bathrooms, picnic areas and a splash pad. Part of the park is closed due to storm damage but it's still a lovely place
