Sesquicentennial State Park is very best downtown Columbia SC, but it's definitely a world away. Built by the CCC in the 30s, the park is still a vibrant and robust place to visit, for exercise, boating or just to get away from city life. Sesqui, meaning half 100 (or 50) and centennial, meaning 100, make 150. Which was the celebration that formed the park; Columbia's 150th founding anniversary. I visited for a couple of days at the campground. While I was there I hiked the loop trail, which to me seemed like the original road from the 30s, but could have been just a trail. I also hiked the lake trail. Both were very easy to hike and in all have me about 10 miles of hiking. There's also a few miles of bike trails, and bikes can also go on the loop trail. There's a boat house at the lake with kayaks and canoe's for rent. A playground, a splash pad, and plenty of picnic shelters for all. So, of your looking for an adventure but don't want to go too far from home, take a look at Sesquicentennial State Park.

One of the best state parks I’ve been too! I’m a local photographer, KateLens Photography, and recently did an engagement session here. I was so impressed with how well kept and beautiful this place is. Great for families, photos, and just walking through and enjoying all the scenery here.

It's a nice park with a beautiful pine forest and a pretty lake that looks beautiful in the early morning when the sun is low and the air is calm (no wind). However the trail maps need some improvement. They need distances between major points. There is also one more thing that doesn't make me happy. They discriminate against non SC seniors.

We love this park! Stayed on the campground. Plenty of sites. The lake is right outside the campground just steps away from the sites. You can rent a pedal boat or kayak. The trails are well marked and if you like mountain biking, there’s a trail for that! The lake is peaceful and there are plenty of places to picnic. There is also a dog park! The state park staff are courteous and kind. Don’t miss this gem!
