History of The Crossing Park
My parents live in Summerlin, Las Vegas, just a few blocks from The Crossing Park, which I have come to love over the years. Every time I visit, I drive by the park several times and often take walks there for exercise. During my last visit, I realized that, despite my curiosity, I had never learned about the park's history. So, when I returned home, I did some research online, and here is what I found. I hope you enjoy it!
The Crossing Park has a rich and fascinating history within the vibrant community of Summerlin. Established in 1999, the park quickly became a favorite spot for families and residents in the area. It is part of the master-planned community developed by the Howard Hughes Corporation, which was named after Howard Hughes' grandmother, Jean Amelia Summerlin. The development of Summerlin began in the late 1980s, and by the late 1990s, the growing population required more recreational spaces. This need led to the creation of The Crossing Park.
The park officially opened to the public in 1999 and spans 12 acres, offering a variety of facilities for visitors of all ages. These include a large playground for children, several picnic areas, soccer fields, and a walking trail. Over the years, The Crossing Park has hosted numerous community events, serving as a hub of activity for local sports leagues, family picnics, and holiday celebrations. It is particularly known for its Fourth of July celebrations, where families gather to enjoy fireworks and outdoor festivities.
Since its opening, the park has undergone several improvements. In the early 2000s, additional shade structures were added to enhance visitor comfort during the hot summer months. In 2015, the playground was upgraded with new equipment to ensure safety and enjoyment for children. The walking trail has also been extended to connect with other trails in Summerlin, encouraging a more active lifestyle among residents. Today, The Crossing Park remains a beloved part of the Summerlin community, offering a welcoming space for relaxation, exercise, and social gatherings.
The park has evolved alongside the Summerlin community, adapting to the needs of its residents while providing a peaceful and enjoyable environment. Its rich history and enduring popularity testify to its significance in the area.

It's was a fine park the first time I went. However, I went this morning & this big bully started harassing me & others. Beware, he does this at other parks. I couldn't get his image up close. He's supposedly w/City of Summerlin but there isn't that legitimately. They bully to steal land from Las Vegas. It's a simple neighborhood in Las Vegas. Call the cops on him if it continues. I did.

This park is nicknamed “shady park” because it is one of a small handful of parks that got the shade cover right. We can play here any time of day — even a quick few times up and down the structure in the middle of a hot summer’s day. There are plenty of trees, and a nice tan awning over the play structure.

Super Clean Park, lots of grass. Kind of small, has small playground for kids. Great fields for sports like soccer and baseball.
