This is a great local spot for hiking through some woodsy and prairie fields. You can expect to see a lot of wildlife including various birds, deer, butterflies, turtles, frogs, and even snakes on occasion. There is a nice size pond with bridges that crosses over parts of it. There is a park with a splash pad for kids and a large picnic area nearby. Side note, there is a large hill in front of the parking lot (near the baseball field) that is great for sledding in the winter!

Veteran Acres has so much to offer. The nature center is great for kids to learn about wildlife on a cold or rainy day. There a lots of beautiful trails to walk or run on. The park and splash pad is great for summer days. Its a must see for bird photographers with a variety of herons, sandhill cranes and more. There is also a nice dock for fishing!

My favorite place to visit I go running here everyday and have since I was a child. You feel so secluded at points you forgot you're in the middle of a neighborhood. Plenty of hiking trails some paved some not, for all levels of explorers. The recreation area is great and I recommend visiting and donating to the nature center. If you're lucky you'll cath the butterfly room.

I've been coming to this park for over 45 years! I grew up in Crystal Lake and now live in Rockford but have happily made the drive to visit this park. It has beautiful trails that are well marked and I love the rolling hills. It's nice that it joins up to Sterne's Woods for when you want some additional miles without having to loop on the same path over and over. The small fort was found in Sterne's wood. It is a well thought out and nicely put together fort that we were careful around and left exactly how we found it. Hopefully others got to see it too.

This is a great park. I love that the ground is a soft material and there are no wood chips or rubber pieces that get stuck in my kid's shoes. There's a nice splash pad and a trail that connects to the nature center.
