I was in the area to get tattooed at Top Notch in Elgin and I had some time to pass before my appointment so I came over to this lovely park to walk around. The dam is really cool, the landscaping is gorgeous, and there were lots of geese and ducks. It was so hot out but the light splashes from the rushing water of the dam felt so good. And if you like trainspotting, this is a great place to watch as 2 trains passed just in the time I was here. There was also plenty of shade and benches. Nice park.

Walton Island Park on the Fox River in Elgin is a hidden gem! It's beautifully arranged, clean, and thoughtfully designed — perfect for a peaceful walk, fishing, or simply relaxing by the water. The landscaping and layout are impressive, showing great planning and care. It’s a wonderful spot to enjoy nature right in the heart of the city. Highly recommend for anyone looking to unwind in a scenic, well-maintained area.

This review comes from the eye/opinion of a wedding photographer, so I have slightly different take on Walton Park Island--in a good way. :) If you're having your wedding in Elgin--at either The Haight or The Highland Loft Event Venue for example--Walton Park is a gorgeous location to get portrait shots of the bride and groom. From the bridges connecting the island to mainland, to the gorgeous backgrounds provided by the surrounding community, Walton provides a secluded getaway in the middle of Elgin's city center. Take advantage of Walton in either Summer, when the foliage is at full peak, or Fall, as the color change, and you're sure to get pictures you'll cherish your entire life.

I have enjoyed Walton Park for many years, I actually first discovered it when I got into bike riding, and took the fox river trail that took me past it. The as a photographer I started taking clients here especially if their venue is in downtown Elgin.
