I enjoyed the visit to this park. I came for a walk with my dog. The park is very clean and well kept. During the week you can park here for free, parking is hard to get in the main parking lot, I guess they close the parking area near the playground during the week. Maybe I need to try coming earlier, I came at 930am and had to circle the parking lot and wait for a spot. This park has an access to the San Gabriel river trail and I saw lots of people riding their bikes. The walking path is level and free of debris, I felt safe coming here to walk, lots of other women and some men walking the pathway. They have garbage cans and dog stations with baggies for your dog, I did not see any water stations so bring water for you and your pup.

I love bringing my kids to this park, it’s beautiful, serene, and always calming. Their favorite part is feeding the ducks, squirrels, rabbits and I enjoy taking photos and videos of the stunning flowers, especially the colorful baby’s breath. Seeing their faces light up makes every visit feel even more special.

We went to spend our saturday evening but I saw people fishing as well. Although I do not recommend fishing there because the water was not that clean in my opinion, just take your stuff and see if you find it suitable for fishing then go for it, I would not. Overall, the park is lovely. My daughter loved the ducks. 💕

By far one of the cleanest parks I’ve been to. They have a play area for kids, a variety of picnic tables, they have a bunch of ducks, turtles and even fish. You’re also able to look for hummingbirds, dragonflies, bees, butterflies etc which was pretty nice! My kids loved this park. Very well kept.

I biked 40 minutes from home along the San Gabriel River Trail and ended up at Wilderness Park — definitely worth the ride. This is one of the most peaceful, well-maintained green spaces in southeast LA County.
The park features a scenic man-made lake with fountains, ducks, shaded paths, and wooden bridges that make for great photo spots. Interpretive signs along the path highlight local wildlife and plant life — including pollinators, migratory birds, and waterfowl species. You’ll see ducks, egrets, herons, and maybe even a dragonfly show if you slow down enough to notice.
What stood out most was how calm and walkable the layout is. It’s not a huge park, but it’s very well planned: paved trails, picnic areas, shaded benches, and wide-open views of the lake. It’s a great place to relax, observe wildlife, or just take a break from city pace. Clean, quiet, and clearly cared for by the City of Downey.
Whether you’re biking in from the river trail like I did or visiting with family, Wilderness Park is a great reminder that a well-designed park doesn’t have to be flashy — just thoughtful.
