I love exploring the James river parks. There are so many nooks to discover. The 42nd street entrance is a good spot for access to both quiet waters of the river and the main river if you keep going all the way to the end of the trail. As I explored down the trail, I found myself under the nickel bridge. I have wondered how to get to that trail for a while after walking across the nickel bridge and seeing people below. I was very excited to find a new spot!
This was a great place away from the crowds to watch fireworks on July 4th Be prepared to cross some rocks and water to get a good view Parking says closed after dark but they didn't close the gates this holiday evening. Would have like to seen something posted to know about parking in advance. I parked further down the road with a short walk to avoid chance of car being locked in after dark. As always, pack out what you packed in. Leave no trash to keep local spots nice.
Lovely walk between the James and the railroad tracks, followed it all the way to Belle Island. Next time planning to ride our bikes
42nd street entrance is such a joy! Today, we got to go and meet friends, rockhop, explore, do a scavenger hunt, skip rocks, etc. Perfect morning for the unreasonable warmth.
One of my favorite spots in RVA to access the river. There's an abundance of ideal rocks to hangout on. It's a short but moderately difficult walk down through the woods, across the foot bridge, across the channel /offshoot of the river, through the woods again that open up to the river. All in under .30 miles from the parking lot! The height of the river changes the ease/difficulty of access. The lower the river, the more options of crossing available to you.
