Our visit to the park was very peaceful and enjoyable. We enjoyed walking the trails while also stopping to look at beautiful views of the river. The small gravel parking lot fills up very quickly so it's best to arrive early.
This is such a beautiful place and our first time visit. However for being such a beautiful place trail along the park could be better, although I don’t want to but giving it one star less so somethings would change hopefully. After parking and walking on the trail a bit, trail suddenly disappears and now you end up walking on the road. This can be dangerous and unsafe for both walkers, joggers, pets and surely not easy for drivers. Although the traffic is less yet it calls for a nice trail whenever is next renovation effort. This would also make it more accessible to people and safer to enjoy this very beautiful place. We got lucky with parking. Only spent about an hour hiked from parking all the way to what is called a Z dam. You get to hear roaring James River watch the water rushing through rapids and may be spend some time on the huge rocks along the river. If you are a birder this is beautiful place for that too. We spotted blue heron and few other birds along the way. Hope you enjoy this park in your next visit.
This park is a hidden gem. There’s a beautiful trail that is perfect right now as fall is upon us with a nice view of James River. It is so quiet. There’s an area where you can dock from with a canoe or raft. Beware of these spiders with long legs that seem to be everywhere, but I didn’t manage to get a photo to identify them.
The trails in this park are fantastic for easy walking, running and biking. Mostly flat with a couple of areas that are a little more technical. Watch out during the summer, on the weekends there is basically no parking from the late morning on. Great river views, places to go in the water.
One of my favorite parks which offers great views and miles of walking trails allowing you to find privacy even on the most crowded summer days. The boat access is a great put in for white water enthusiasts doing the "upper" (pony to reedy Creek). Continuing down river this part meets up with the wetlands, both of which are perfect especially for dogs who like to run around off leash :-)
When Google exported structured hours, they’re surfaced here instead of being buried in the raw payload.
