Our time at Mutts Canine Cantina was great but our dog’s was even better. We always look for opportunities in the Austin area to socialize our dog and have fun as owners and Mutts presents the best combination of the two we’ve seen so far. Parking at Mutts was pretty smooth but it does look like it could be difficult on days or times where many owners decide to stop by. When entering there are a lot of security precautions in place ensuring that it would be VERY difficult for dogs to escape which is much appreciated. To get into the dog park itself you need to purchase a day pass which runs $14, there are other options like weekly, monthly, or even membership passes but as first timers we didn’t want to commit too hard just yet. Ordering is pretty straightforward and the food options are simple, burgers and tenders and fries. They do also have a dog menu but it is very lacking for being a dog focused place, just two options for dogs and both involve peanut butter so in the case your dog is strange and doesn’t like peanut butter then you’re out of luck. There’s a good amount of seating on the patio for food and the interior of the dog park also has a lot of seating and things for dogs as well like rocks, baths, and water bowls. They have a big screen out in the yard too so if you’re into sports and would like to bring your dog somewhere to watch then this is a great option. Beware that you SHOULD NOT bring food into the yard, they don’t explicitly say it but just know that is not a good idea. Overall, Mutts is an awesome place to bring a dog and just hang out and have them (or you) socialize. Consider stopping by with your dog when you have a chance!

About a week ago we took our elderly dog "Troy" here as an experience, since he had limited time left with us. We just wanted him to eat some food out and see other dogs and people. We were never going to put him in the dog park since he's 16yo and disabled. The owner greeted us and asked if we wanted to sit on the back patio so he could watch all the dogs through the fence. She was so very kind to Troy and us. She even told other customers about his situation, and they brought their dogs over to see him. We had a wonderful experience and Troy got to receive a lot of love. I wanted to thank everyone who came up to us, you made our night very special.

My friend/neighbor invited me to be her guest a couple of times with my dog, Rambo and we always had a great time! I decided that I would become a member and this dog park has really helped my little guy (10lbs) gain more confidence! There is a nice little community, and most people are super friendly. The staff is really great and caring, and the owners are super nice! Solid beer selection, and a full bar. I haven’t tried the food yet, but I intend to.

Update: It took a whole month and an Austin 311 Code Enforcement request to get this simple matter resolved, but I am pleased to report that my entire apartment complex has our nighttime darkness back, and the bar’s security lights now point down onto their own property. I have had zero in-person interactions with the owners of this establishment, but after this experience, and reading the appalling way customers, former supporters, and ex employees are spoken to online in public replies from the business owner, there is very little that could convince me to return to this venue as a customer. When there are this many messy online interactions with your client base, it’s time to look in the mirror and consider hiring a marketing/pr manager who can handle public relations with grace. Reply: You can clearly see which lights are a problem from the pictures attached to this review. There are 2 rectangular LED floodlight panels which are mounted on the south side of your building’s metal awning, with no light hoods installed to shield neighboring residences from direct light pollution, as required by Austin city code. OP: Initially, we loved this place. A quick and easy beer next door, walkable, and a welcome replacement for the empty lot that was next to the apartment we've lived in for years. Over time, the over-amped music from their musical guests got super annoying, but my biggest issue is that they have security lights pointing UP at the apartment complex next door where we live. We have kindly mentioned it to the staff when visiting, called about it, and asked that they consider making adjustments, but we no longer visit this establishment (despite its proximity) because of the blatant disregard for neighboring residences. I understand having security lights to illuminate your parking lot and property, but why are they extending several hundred feet beyond your property and aimed up at the 3rd story of the apartment complex next door? I was unable to find updated contact information for anyone who might be able to escalate for me, since this location is no longer listed on MUTTS website, and The Tailgate ATX website doesn't have a "contact us" button anywhere visible. Please adjust your security lights so that the beams of light do not point up into the homes of your neighbors. Thank you.

I was concerned after reading some of the reviews, but I came anyway. I love that it’s open late (11pm) and the food and drinks were good. I had the frozen alcoholic lemonade, which was delicious, and the chicken tenders, which were good. The portions of the food are very generous, but the portions of the sauces are not. There’s no reason to fill sauce cups less than half way up, it’s just unnecessary—sauce is cheap. Probably more waste having to ask for a second plastic cup instead of just providing a full cup in the first place. Anyway, overall good experience, and definitely worth the cost of entry.
