O’Neil Park used to be one of the most beautiful parks in Lawrence. The layout is great, with open space for soccer, baseball, and plenty of room for families and kids to enjoy. It had a well-maintained field, perfect for community events and youth sports. Unfortunately, the lack of proper care and upkeep has really taken a toll. What was once a lush green field has now become a dusty, rocky patch of land. The grass is completely gone in most areas, replaced by dry dirt and scattered stones, making it unsafe and uncomfortable for kids to play or for games to be held. You can tell this place was once full of potential and community spirit, but now it feels abandoned by the city. The park still has value and could easily return to its former glory with the right maintenance and attention. It's a shame to see such a valuable community space fall into this condition. Lawrence deserves better for its families and kids.
