To access the trail, park near the playground. Take the trail to the right that crosses the bridge. The Linear Trail is a 1.1 mile trail that runs through wetlands between 2 sides of the Plantation Preserve Golf Course. There is water on both sides of the trail. You can run, walk, hike, or bike it. It's even wheelchair accessible which a lot of trails aren't. It ends at a neighborhood at East Tropical Way so when you reach the end you can just turn around and go back. The landscaping is beautiful and there are a lot of benches where you can stop for a rest. There are also a lot of great information signs. My favorite was the one describing how in the 1950's Tequesta artifacts were discovered at the 14th hole of the original golf course. Most of the Tequesta sites have been lost to development. This is a wonderful place to bird watch and you will see the most from December through May. Even though it wasn't bird season I still saw wood storks and egrets. This trail was a wonderful find. There is easy parking and the view is stunning. Most of the trail is under direct sun so bring water and keep that in mind until the weather cools off. The trail will be even better when the weather cools off and the migrating birds arrive.
One of the best places to see wintering songbirds and wetland birds in South Florida, since all the perches are right by the trail (which is paved and handicapped-accessible). They've also planted a wide variety of native plants, which are also easily visible. Get there early!
This is a great place for a bit of bird watching, nice casual walk or short bike ride. Be sure to go into the main entrance of the golf course on West Broward Blvd at West 70th Avenue. Go to the parking lot on the left and look for the trail head near the playground. There it's another entrance on the east end but there isn't any parking at that entrance as it's intended for the local neighborhood residents to use. It's a paved trail suitable for kids on bikes to tag along or people using walkers or wheelchairs. All the vegetation is native Florida plants indigenous to this area. This is important because native plants attract native bugs and birds that eat them which is why you see so any birds here. It's not a hiking trial but a very pleasant mile and a half asphalt walking trail through a lovely area where you will see turtles, birds, rabbits at times, iguanas and many other wading birds depending on the time of day and the season of the year.
Nice walking trail for all.
This place is a hidden gem. A lot of nature and wildlife there which will give you energy for the view it gives. Even during drizzle the trail still good cause the pathway is paved. Highly recommended!
