We visited Rock City Park during the weekend after Christmas and had a great time with a group of kids that ranged from age 2 to 10. The park is located about half way up Mt. Diablo and the road winds and turns often, so if you get car-sick easily, you might not enjoy the ride. It costs $10 per car to access the park. There are a lot of large bouldes and interesting rock formations that we enjoyed exploring. There are also impressive views of the Bay Area, especially from the top of some of the larger rocks. After exploring the park, we had some snacks at one of the picnic tables. Visiting here is a great way to get kids out of the house for some simple and (basically) free fun.

Rock City was great to see! The rock formations are unique and beautiful. It's easy to walk through and some of the rocks you can climb. I recommend visiting, especially if you're also visiting Mt. Diablo and going through the south gate entrance.

This is where Elephant Rock is alongside other rock formations. No restrooms nearby so plan accordingly. This area of Mount Diablo is rugged and steep so be careful especially in damp conditions. The rocks themselves are fascinating, they look like an outdoor art exhibit. People over the years have left their marks on them, literally, and some of the holes in the formation are large enough for children to climb into (please don't let your kids do this)

Hike with fun climbing experience. The rocks look very “lively” especially the elephant rock! You can also see wildlife here.

Vast and amazing park. Once you pay the fee (they take card) you can drive up this road that winds all the way up the mountain to the summit where there's a tower that overlooks the whole mountain range. Along the road up, there are plenty of spots to park and trail heads everywhere. At the summit there is a tour guide who is very knowledgeable of the area. Bathrooms at the top too if you're afraid to use a bush. Great hiking place with varying difficulties all over. I went once and I am already planning on going again. You should go too!
