Fantastic park with footpaths accessible for wheelchairs and strollers for all to enjoy the beautiful nature, birds, turtles, butterflies, ducks, egrets, swans, heron and more to the degree you are interested. Near the entrance there are very clean public restrooms, a solid playground and covered picnic area. If you take the walk on footpaths through wooded area to wetlands just for a short walk and a look 👀 - you can turn around. Or you if you are up for a longer walk can commit to the entire loop which is a beautiful 2.4 miles in all. Highly recommend a visit here to recharge your spirit in nature. No dogs or bikes are allowed. Educational signs are available at different points throughout this beautiful reservation.

A nice gem in the Lorain County Metroparks crown. The paths are well tended. We found the tram ride a great start with knowledgeable volunteer to point out points of interest prior to walking the trail ourselves.

We traveled approx. 35 minutes to Lorain Co. to visit this MetroPark. It came highly recommended for birdwatching/water fowl. 🦢 🦅 Boy! Were we pleased! This was not a “See one park see them all” experience. Sandy Ridge is biodiverse. It seems to be a healthy & stable ecosystem. We saw a variety of birds, bugs, flowering plants, trees, etc. we saw plants that we’ve never seen in our county parks. 🐢 🐢!!There were so many 🐝 & 🦋 😊 The smell was amazing! It wasn’t overly crowded. Folks were friendly & spoke/smiled in passing. It was a good vibe 💫 The trail loop is approx. 2 miles. The path is clean and level. I didn’t trip this time haha! Sun protection needed. There isn’t any protection once you make it out the wooded area. There’s a shelter with restrooms, water bottle station, & a small playground for kids near the entrance. We will definitely be returning to see what else Lorain Co. Metroparks has to offer

Sandy Ridge Reservation is a gem tucked away near a housing complex. The parking lot is very large to accommodate plenty of vehicles. There is a building, almost like a nature center, that can be rented out for events. Reservation offers two major trails. All trails are crushed gravel and flat. The first is the Marsh Meadows Loop. This is basically a dog walking loop, although you can walk and run this mile loop. Plenty of birds to be spotted in this meadow. The second trail is called the Marsh Loop Trail. You take the connecting Wet Woods Trail until it opens up into a fantastic marsh area. The Marsh Loop is around 1 mi. There are plenty for birds, Canada Geese, White Egrets and Blue Herons. There are two raised platforms on the loop where you can see across the marsh. There are a few things to be careful of when walking this loop. First, There are a lot of bird droppings so be careful. Not enough that you can't get through but keep a lookout. The second is that the Canada Geese can be aggressive. If you mind your business and try not to get too close you'll be okay but if they're in the middle of the loop it's kind of tough to get past them. I got a couple run up on me. It looked like he was trying to protect his mate. The restrooms are very clean as is the area. There are also dog "clean up stations" throughout.

Great place for nature lovers and wildlife photography. Large area with diverse habitats. Lots of opportunity for long walks. Got my first Bald Eagle photos here.
