I’m truly grateful to have this dog park available, and I bring my pup here often because he loves to run freely. However, I’ve come to understand why this park is always so empty. Unfortunately, the surface is full of rocks, and my dog has already sprained his ankle twice because of them. It’s hard to watch him get injured in a place that’s supposed to be safe for dogs. What makes it even more confusing is that the park right next to the dog park has grass, yet the designated dog park is covered in rocks. I’ve also tried taking my pup to the park in Southeast, but that space is overfilled with wood chips, which can cause splinters. Because of that, my dog refuses to run there at all. I really do appreciate the effort that went into building this park, and I understand that much of the labor and resources may have been donated. That said, with the amount residents pay in rent, parking, utilities, and even additional pet fees, it would be wonderful to have a soft, green area where dogs can run safely. I know there’s concern about dogs digging in grass, but it would still be far better than rocks. I’m even willing to volunteer my time to help put down grass if needed. All I ask is that the rocks be replaced with something safer so our dogs can enjoy the space without the risk of injury. Or we can just take away the rocks all together.

Virginia Avenue Park is one of those small parks that only locals know about. The nearby highway hides it well. The park includes a dog park, a community garden, and green space with several picnic tables. A bike trail goes by it offering beautiful views of the Washington Monument.

Great park but there’s a man with two German shepherds and a corgi and claims his dogs are “friendly” DONT BELIEVE HIM. One of the shepherds attacked mine and he has a puncture wound. Seriously they shouldn’t even be at a dog park! I hate when people bring aggressive dogs to the dog park. It does get muddy after the rain and the water fountains are broken cause a puddle of mud.

Great location and lots of room for the dog to run. We visit all the time! I just wish there were a few more trees and some interesting activities in the dog park (a big rock or some bushes or something). It’s kind of barren and is only engaging for the dog if there are other puppers around.

Great park! My doggie loves it there and pups are pretty friendly too.
