Great path, kept in very good condition. It is used moderately by other bikes, dog walkers, and joggers. The trails are well marked with maps along the route at most every intersection. Great scenery and a great path for my first bike ride. I took the trail westbound tward elgin, missed a cut off and had to back track but fun none the less.
A great intersection of three crushed limestone trails: Prairie Path main stem (east), Elgin spur (north west), and Aurora spur (south west).
It was awesome. Great Trail.
Wheaton Police station just down the street from the trailhead. A community service vehicle records all license numbers on computer. Issuing parking tickets minutes after the 4 hr. limit. I would avoid this trail head. It was 70 degrees and they had the water fountain shut off!
Great place to meet up with fellow runners and three choices in which direction to go. Most of the year there is a running water fountain that it's really helpful but it probably closed due to Covid (I didn't check). Usually a port a potty here too but only use it if you really need it! It's not serviced often enough and can be really vile. If parking on the street don't forget to feed the meter except for Sunday. Train parking lot across from trail head good for free parking on the weekends! The Prairie Path is a great trail and I've spent years training on it.
