Read more about San Mateo Central ParkSeal Point Park in San Mateo is a hidden gem that offers a unique juxtaposition of industrial marvels and serene natural beauty. Perched along the San Francisco Bay, it serves as one of the premier vantage points for aviation enthusiasts. Because of its strategic location, you can watch a steady stream of commercial airliners on their final descent into SFO. Seeing these massive jets glide silently over the shimmering water before touching down is a captivating sight that never gets old. However, the park is equally famous for its thriving ecosystem. The restored marshlands and mudflats are a magnet for diverse shorebirds. Depending on the tide, you’ll find clusters of Sandpipers skittering along the water’s edge and various species of ducks—including Buffleheads and Scaups—bobbing in the shallows.
Read more about Seal Point ParkGood dog friendly park that’s tucked away in a neighborhood. There’s plenty of street parking, a children’s playground, picnic tables, restrooms, trash/recycle and even a small basketball court. There’s are a few trails to choose from. We started walking the one right past the bathrooms but it leads to another neighborhood, and same with Creek Overlook Trail leading to Monterey Ct. We turned back and walked the Salson Trail Upper Creek. Once it started going uphill the bushes were more overgrown so we turned back. All in all went spent about an hour and walked roughly 2 miles. Saw a tiny snake but no coyotes, though there are signs. Nice little hike and area.
